I participated in a church choir and orchestra trip to Paris, France, one summer. Our purpose was to help raise awareness of the needs of refugees and to support the churches in the area who ministered to these refugees. We performed multiple concerts to help support these organizations.
We already had two excellent pianists going, so I volunteered to go as a cellist. The only problem was that I had only just started playing a year before, and was only renting a cello from a music store. I didn’t think my rental agreement included permission to travel with the cello overseas. String instruments don’t do well in airplane baggage compartments, and the cello was too big to take as carry-on, like a violin or viola. The only other option would be to buy an extra plane seat for the case. And no, I was not going to pay for my cello to fly to Europe.
Our music minister spoke with the organizers in Paris, and they indicated that they could find a rental for me over there. No promises, but they thought they could.
So I trusted them. I trusted God to make sure everything worked out. And He did! The French organizers apparently knew some people in a music store, and they got this fabulous European cello for me to play. I sounded so much better playing it than my cheap rental back in the States!
Sometimes God answers no to our prayers and pleas. Sometimes He answers yes. Sometimes He says, ‘wait.’ But we can trust that He hears us and, like a parent giving his child good things, He gives us what is best for us.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
