My husband is not very musical, though he does sing in the choir every now and then. When he was a young child, he apparently felt quite at home in a church choir loft. His mother told me this story soon after we were married. They were members of a small, friendly church in Michigan, and one evening they had a late choir practice. I can’t remember if it was in preparation for Christmas or some other special event, but in any case, his parents were very involved with what was going on, and they lost track of their little boy.
When it was time to leave, they couldn’t find him anywhere. They searched the whole church, calling out his name. All the church staff and church members there that night tried to find him. Everyone in the church considered this little boy part of their family, and they refused to give up searching. They began to search outside. They called the police. The dogs were even called out to try and sniff to find him.
Finally, one man had a new idea of where to look, and sure enough, he found the little boy. My future husband was asleep under the pews in the choir loft. And everyone rejoiced, as family does.
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
