Weddings often have candle lightings. I am asked to play “something soft” during this time, and I have to pick a piece for which I can easily adjust the length. Candles don’t always light. Or they flicker out and have to be relit. Once, during a Christmas wedding, a candle actually caught some greenery on fire near the piano and I was the only one who noticed. Ever try continuing to play soothing music on the piano while frantically trying to get someone’s attention to the fire creeping ever closer? Someone did finally notice and rushed to put it out. I kept playing Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
Sometimes you need help from someone else. So if your plan doesn’t have anything to do with bragging or boasting, and yet you can’t determine why it still makes you uneasy, get advice from another Christian you trust. Get their help and see what they think. Don’t just ignore those little irritating feelings of unease. A few sparks of foreboding can lead to a fiery disaster. God often speaks in a quiet voice, deep in our hearts. That’s the time to listen, and to patiently wait until God’s choice becomes clear. Don’t rush ahead and allow a bad choice to turn into disaster.
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
Proverbs 15:22
Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.
Proverbs 19:20-21
