Courage - Day 25

Moses – the same Moses who parted the Red Sea – began by being quite timid. Before he became the leader of the Jewish nation, he was just a herder, living out in the middle of nowhere, quite content with his peaceful life. He knew exactly what God wanted him to do, to free all the Jews from Pharoah, but he still came up with all kinds of excuses to not do it. “Who am I to tell other people what to do? Why would they listen to me after I ran away years ago? I’m not a good speaker.” These were probably valid reasons for Moses to have doubts, but I suspect he probably just didn’t want to go back to Egypt right then either. But God answered every doubt in Moses’ heart.

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.
Exodus 4:10-12

God gives us our musical skills too - He will guide our hands if we ask. I pray before every solo that God would speak to others through my playing and guide my hands. I pray that even if I mess up, people would only hear whatever message God wanted them to get from whatever piece I’m playing.

This same attitude works in other areas of life. Start by being close to God, through prior foundation-building and discipline. Then pray about your next actions or words, asking God to work through you. And be courageous. Who knows, but that you alone may have been put in your position for just such a time as this? We may think that the task God has set before us is too difficult. Well, it is, if we try to do it in our own power. If God asks us to do something, then we can trust that He will be there right along with us, helping us at every moment.
